Leona Alexander Family Room, 2018-08-30 00:33:28. Are you ready? It’s before and after time! I could not be more excited to share this Family Room redesign with you. I worked with Room & Board to transform the space and I am absolutely joyful about how it turned out. The room is full of light and color. It’s comfortable and inviting. It’s practical and useful. And now we spend at least 70% more time in the room than we used to. Not joking. And more on that in a bit.
Abigail Walter Family Room, 2018-09-02 07:56:48. Think big. When it comes to the furnishings in your family's room, think bulky and over-stuffed. Nothing is more relaxing that climbing into a big club chair to cozy up under a throw while the fireplace crackles in winter! Whether you choose a sofa and love seat with a plaid or striped fabric upholstery or rich leather, go for those large, sturdy looking pieces. Large, over-stuffed throw pillows, nubby accent rugs and cozy throw blankets are great and useful accents to include, and they add splashes of color to the room.

Here are some things to consider: 1. While it's nice to have a separate media room, often the space or funds are not available for this luxury. Consider designing the family room to accommodate movie night by incorporating room darkening black-out shades and the necessary electronic equipment and speakers. 2. If you often need a place for extra guests to sleep, a family room can be converted easily to a sleeping area if you incorporate the right furniture. A queen size sleeper sofa can comfortably sleep two (look for ones with an inflatable mattress topper for additional comfort. Also standard size sheets will fit better since the mattresses are as thick as a conventional ones). If additional sleeping space, or individual beds are desired for activities like kid's sleepovers, then look for furniture such as ottomans and chairs that fold out to single beds. If you have the space, you may also be able to incorporate a day bed. For additional sleeping, look for a day bed with a trundle below (these are also great for kid's bedrooms for a friend who sleeps over). 3. One of the complaints we frequently hear about homes is that the dining room is too small for big family get togethers. But when asked how often people entertain large groups, it is often only once or twice a year. A family room addition can help solve this problem if space is designed in for a large expanding table. 4. A large table is also useful in a family room because inevitably kids will end up doing their homework where the family gathers. A large table is a perfect multipurpose addition to the family room. To save space, it can even be placed with an end against a wall surface, and pulled out when additional seating is needed.

Use greenery to decorate the room, and consider several light sources for the ones who love to read. A floor lamp placed beside a chair makes the perfect place to cozy up and read a book. Table lamps on each end of the sofa further enhance the cozy, relaxed atmosphere. Overhead light should be avoided as it can be harsh and glaring. For the walls, decorate with pictures and prints that reflect your own tastes and personality.

Make sure that you get a sofa that's great for curling up on and reading a book or doing homework, or that easily seats three adults for entertaining. Sectionals seem to be the best bet as they offer the best of both worlds when it comes to form and function. Leather sofas and chairs are trendy and very easy to maintain, but make sure that you choose a sofa in a darker color as opposed to white, as we all know what happens whenever a glass of red wine gets spilled on anything white

Two rugged leather sofas face off over the round table, squared by another couch upholstered in "Natura Lattice" from Giant Textiles. The furniture’s U-shaped configuration is oriented towards the television, since this ever-growing family of six frequently gathers here for movies and sporting events. A colorful oil painting by artist Sally Bowring adds scale while complementing the room’s color scheme.

Books, DVDs, VHS tapes, magazines, and scattered toys will end up being this room's best friend and worst enemy. Instead of using open shelves, try closed cupboards with doors. On the shelves inside label several different baskets and boxes so that everyone knows where things go when they are put back. With this in mind, you can also add storage trunks. They can double as a coffee table and a place to store some more stuff such as board games or coloring books and crayons.

Using your imagination and materials that you already have around the house can be an inexpensive way to turn that monotone dull wall into a wall that is filled with your personality. For my own family room this is what happened. I was amazed at my husband's unique display on one of our walls. My husband likes to build and play around with many materials you could say he is a fixer upper. He had so many tools lying all around the garage that we were unable to park are cars inside of it. He realized he had to do something to tidy up and because of this fact his creative energy over flowed. Many of the tools he acquired over the years were antiques and had unique characteristics. He first sketched a design on paper and then transferred his tools to the family room wall. This display has given the wall texture and is a conversation piece to all that view it. This display has succeeded in removing the clutter from the garage and we now have ample parking space and a beautiful wall to show off.
Sheena Bowers Family Room, 2018-09-01 05:22:07. Color Choices and Window Treatments. Since this room is to be used mostly by family, the colors you choose should be those you love. If you like light, neutral colors, by all means go for it! You may prefer darker hues, such as rich burgundies or deep blues. These are fine too - just remember, darker colors will make the room appear smaller. As far as windows go, you can use any type of blinds, shades, drapes or curtains you like. If you want the room to appear light and airy, go for mini-blinds or shades in light, neutral colors that can be drawn up when you like. If you prefer a more private room, heavier drapes or boldly patterned curtains are good choices. You may even want to consider wood shutters that can be pushed back when you like. Light walls look great with darker upholstery and leather. Any tones that complement or contrast each other will further add depth and interest to the room. Just remember, this room is specially made for you and your family to enjoy, so make it your own! Use all of the colors, fabrics, and accessories that are your favorites to make it a room in which you will truly enjoy relaxing after a hard day's work.
